Biography

Gbenga Fakuade is a Professor in the Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, Faculty of Arts, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. He obtained his B.ED, and M.A. in English Language from the University of Ibadan in 1979 and 1984, respectively, and his PhD in Linguistics from the University of Ilorin in 1997. He had served in different administrative positions before he left the Federal University of Technology, Yola, for the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria. He was Head of the Department of Management and General Studies; two-time Dean of the School of Management and Information Technology; Director of Information Management System; Dean of the School of Post Graduate Studies and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), among others. His research interests traverse the following: Contact Linguistics – Bilingualism and Multilingualism, Language Variation, Linguistic Stylistics, Discourse Analysis, Language Documentation, Language Policy and Planning, and Language for Specific Purposes. He has participated in the capacity building of a critical mass of intellectuals at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has supervised 16 PhD theses, 32 Masters theses, and several undergraduate Projects.
