About Us

Philosophy

The Department of Linguistics and Nigerian Languages is guided by the philosophy that language is fundamental to human identity, culture, and societal development. We believe that the study of language enriches academic knowledge and serves as a bridge to understanding and preserving the rich linguistic and cultural diversity that defines Nigeria and the world at large. The main objective of our programmes is to produce, at the end of the stipulated period of study in the University, well-trained graduates who are equipped to contribute to the manpower needs of the nation and the global community of a rapidly changing world. In line with the university’s vision, the department fosters a learning environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and community engagement.
